Es decir que, a diferencia de lo que dice Milc�ades Pe�a, la revoluci�n criolla no estaba destinada fatalmente a terminar en lo que termin�, en una burgues�a antinacional opuesta al desarrollo burgu�s. Que hab�a otro camino lo demuestran los derrotados Moreno y Artigas, pero tambi�n el Paraguay aplastado por la Guerra de la Triple Alianza del creador de la Historia de Belgrano, tras cincuenta a�os de un desarrollo capitalista end�geno, sin precedentes en nuestro continente.
�Y cu�l es el papel de Belgrano en todo esto? Belgrano debut� en el ala m�s jacobina de Mayo, junto con Castelli y Moreno. Sus campa�as al Paraguay y a la Banda oriental fueron en parte aplicaci�n del Plan de Operaciones. Belgrano quer�a la revoluci�n, quer�a que los criollos se apoderasen no s�lo de los puestos burocr�ticos sino que tambi�n hubiese un desarrollo nacional. Estaba dispuesto a incluir y favorecer a las masas indias, gauchas y mestizas, como se evidencia en el reglamento para las misiones de fines de 1810. Pero su jacobinismo, como el de los burgueses espa�oles liberales de C�diz, llegaba “hasta ah�”; una cosa era llegar como liberador paternal de las masas y otra permitir que esas masas osaran tener una pol�tica independiente. En ese caso, Belgrano desensillar� del caballo revolucionario y montar� presto el corcel del orden.
Entre las invasiones inglesas y su viaje a Europa lo encontraremos en su etapa “buena”. Es el Belgrano conocido: combatiente de los ingleses, vocal de la Junta, guerrero, creador de la bandera, etc. Un Belgrano revolucionario, categor�a �sta a la que cada corriente historiogr�fica le adjudicar� distintos significados.
Algunos episodios de ese per�odo, sin embargo, prefiguran lo que vendr� a partir de 1815: el Belgrano contrarrevolucionario.
Analizaremos a continuaci�n algunos hechos clave en la vida de Belgrano, previos y posteriores a su definitivo giro reaccionario. Algunos son conocidos y otros no. Estos �ltimos, m�s que desconocidos, parecen ser ocultos, cuidadosa y deliberadamente ocultos.
