A Plan For Constitutional Government You Won't Get From Either Political Party

Dr. McDurmon has written a powerful book that describes the steps everyone can take at the local level and beyond to begin the process of getting back to constitutional government. It is not just a "what's wrong" book but provides a guide for the real and practical actions we can undertake now to begin the slow, deliberate process of getting back to the relatively "free society" our Founders, at least some of them, thought they had bequeathed to "We The People."
In reading this book you will arm yourself intellectually with many little-known but important details of our history that one will not find in K-12 or undergraduate history textbooks. And you will begin to understand in some detail how things went very wrong, very early in our history after the Philadelphia Convention in 1787 and our Constitution's ratification in 1788. For example, as mentioned on pages 167-170, the list of Congress's and Hamilton's taxes (duties) on commodities under the Tariff of 1789 were much more oppressive than anything King George the 3rd had levied on the Colonies. You will understand how Marshall's court very early on - energized and applied the centralizing effects of the Constitution and the power of the "Federalist," really "nationalist," coup in the areas of localism, states' rights, commerce, money, banking, and taxation that set the precedent for those who followed to expand into education, welfare, healthcare and much more.
Every two or four years conservatives and libertarians go off to vote in national elections, telling themselves that this is going to change something fundamental in the country. Do we observe this happening in any fundamental way no matter which party is in power? No. This book is a readable guide to how real change can be accomplished and why, starting at the local level. Read this book along with Thomas Woods’ “Rollback” and the Stevenots’ “Organizing for Liberty” and you will have a good foundation for beginning the necessary change at the precinct and county level that can eventually be leveraged to effect real change at the state and national levels.

Nice review of governing philosophy from a perspective of liberty

Restoring America One County at a Time was a fun read. I was expecting some tactical manual for political action at the county level, but McDurmon's book was much more than that. He has much to say on taxation, education, currency, markets, national defense, and more. McDurmon examines the biblical basis of government and then describes how America's governmental role got started, got off track, and ended up as the lumbering behemoth that it is today. The historical material is refreshing, not the conventional material covered in high-school text books designed for today's government schools.

Let the reader understand: Restoring America does not call for a few tweaks on the current system. Though McDurmon promotes restoring America to the values of its past, I'm not sure that the America that he describes ever even existed after its beginning. His approach calls for maximum personal liberty and minimum government.

I recommend the book, it is a refreshing and radical departure in governing philosophy from the two nearly identical big government political parties that exist today. Ron Paul would be proud.
