About the Author
Judith Coucouvanis, MA, APRN, BC, is a psychiatric nurse practitioner and behavior specialist at the University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She specializes in the treatment of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and is a behavior consultant to several schools. She speaks regularly on the topics of social skills training, behavior support, and ASD, offering practical tips for parents and teachers. She serves on the board of directors of the Autism Society of Michigan and as an editorial board member of the Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing.

Great book for all children about social interactions

Having a son with special needs, and his struggeling with social skills, it was recommended that we get this book and use it. Not only at home but at his school as well (if able). I have taken it to his school and they are more than willing to add some of these small lessons into the mix to help him, as well as his whole class with social interaction. Full of great ideas, printable, and easy to follow "scripts" for teachers, these lessons are applicable to all children... not just those with special needs. It is a Large book and offers plenty of options for the teachers to work these lessons into their current studys, as well as apply these ideas to current ideas they may be studing. Truely a greaty book. If you feel like your child needs help interacting socially, talk to you school about this book.. or better yet, buy it and donate it to your school.

MY GO-TO BOOK

This is my GO-TO book on Social Skills. Working with High functioning Autism kiddos in the school, I always start (and usually end) with this book when I am planning my lessons. As a school social worker I am interested in practical, but clear and fun lessons that help students learn the basics of interacting with others. I appreciate the specific lesson ideas and the role-play scenarios already outlined. SO HELPFUL. Finally a book that is useful and not filled with just social rules. Fabulous !

Definitely recommend this book

Professionally I have to buy many books. Some have been very disappointing. This one is NOT. It is a great resource and gives you clear, understandable instructions for the groups. There are lots of great group ideas and sequences the lessons well. I def recommend this book if you have to run any groups. It is adaptable across populations.
